The Buzz Feiten
Tuning SystemThe Buzz Feiten Tuning System is a tempered
tuning system for the guitar, bass and all fretted, stringed instruments. The Feiten
System solves the tuning and intonation problems of standard intonation (equal temperment)
by drawing upon the philosophy of well tempering that was applied to the piano
in the 1690s by Werckmeister and remains the standard for intonation of Western
based music. The Feiten System consists of the following:
To Eliminate sharpness at the first three frets caused by the
phenomenonof end tension, the nut is moved slightly closer to the first fret according to
the precise, patented formulae based on the scale length, fret width and string guage of
the instrument.
Each string is then intonated according to the patented pitch
offsets by moving the bridge saddles to prcise positions based on the scale length and
string guage of the instrument. The Feiten system is covered by, 7 US Patents with other
US and foreign patents pending.
The Feiten System is applicable to all electric and acoustic
instruments with either adjustable or fixed-position bridge saddles, and can be used with
steel strings or nylon strings.
Benefit
The Feiten System bring the guitar, bass and any fretted stringed
instrument, into pleasing, harmonious intonation from fret to fret, string to string, and
chord to chord, over the entire length of the fingerboard. Tuning discrepancies, which are
typical with standard intonation, are resolved. The player can play any note, any chord,
anywhere on the neck, and be in tune. This allows the guitar to be played in tune with the
piano over its entire range.
Patents
7 US Patents. With other US, and foreign patents pending.
The patents apply to guitar, bass and all fretted, stringed
instruments covering the nut placement formulae and broad concept of "well
tempering" as well as all the specific workable pitch offset formulae, making the
Feiten System the practical solution to tempered tuning for the guitar and other fretted,
stringed instruments.
It is notable that Korg, Washburn, Garrison Guitars of Spain, Red
Diamon Mandolins, as well as all of the other licensees, have reviewed and are in
agreement with the patents.
The system is a well-kept secret, so the only way you can get it
is through a licensed retrofitter like myself. See my pricing page for an idea of how much
it will cost. For a list of authorized retrofitters, go to Buzz Feitens website.
